Prairie brome grass,
Bromus kalmii, is one of the shorter prairie grasses. The graceful arching
flowers and seed heads are golden brown and are attractive when backlit. I wonder
sometimes why people spend money on exotic ornamental grasses, when our
native species are just as, if not more attractive.
