Blue-joint grass (Calamagrostis canadensis) An abundant species of marshes, blue-joint grass sometimes forms solid stands to the exclusion of other plants. The panicle of blue-joint grass is open, the branches spread loosely and the blades are flat. The flowering plumes create feathery arches in the early August prairie. photos by Cynthia Gehrie
