Hoary puccoon
(Lithospermum canescens)

Hoary puccoon can be low growing at only two inches in height or can reach 20 inches. One of the first plants to bloom in spring, puccoon is found in prairie remnants and open woodlands.

With flattish or curled-over clusters of yellow or orange flowers, the five flat forget-me-not-like lobes flare from a tube that conceals the stamens. The leaves alternate and are slender and toothless.
