Shooting star (Dodecatheon meadia)
Found primarily in prairies, stunning shooting star is
also known to savannas and calcareous fens. Stamens join to form a “pointed beak”
at the tip of the swept-back petals of delicate pink and rose hues.
Blooming in mid to late spring, shooting star is a member of the primrose family and grows 10 - 24 inches in height. video photos by Cynthia Gehrie |
