Song sparrow (Melospiza melodia) Approximately 5 1/2 inches in length, the song sparrow is abundant in moist shrubby areas and wooded edges. It can be identified by its brown and white streaked breast and long slightly rounded tail which it "pumps" in flight. Its primary source of food is seeds. photo by J.
