Tall goldenrod
(Solidago altissima)


All goldenrods are insect pollinated and contrary to popular belief, do NOT contribute to hayfever and other allergies.

The toothed rough-textured leaves and downy grayish stem identify tall goldenrod which can be found blooming along roadsides and in open woods and clearings.

Gray goldenrod
(Solidago nemoralis)


The grayish stem and round gray-green leaves are densely covered with fine hairs. The flowering stalk is slender and plumelike.

There are over 20 species of goldenrod in the Chicago region. Nearly one dozen are known to the Wolf Road Prairie Nature Preserve. Goldenrods belong to the composite or daisy family (compositae.)
