Sawtooth sunflower
(Helianthus grosseserratus)

Often reaching heights of 8 to 10 feet, the sawtooth sunflower is a member of the daisy family. It is a very common species and can be found in prairie remnants and moist meadows, along old fencerows and meandering farmland brooks and at roadsides and in ditches.

The lance-shaped leaves are rough and toothed. The stems are smooth. Its golden spires add a brilliant glow to the open landscapes of autumn.
