Prairie House Gardening
Have a green thumb and want to help beautify the natural setting surrounding the historic Franzosenbusch Prairie House? Saturday Prairie House Gardening and Restoration Workdays (1 pm – 4 pm) may be the perfect volunteer opportunity for you!
During a Restoration Workday, volunteers venture into Wolf Road Prairie to eliminate and remove harmful invasive species of flora. These workdays are crucial to supporting the biodiversity of the prairie ecosystem.
However, STPS and the Franzosenbusch Heritage Project also aim to protect and restore the 1850’s Prairie House and its surrounding garden located on the northern half of Wolf Road Prairie at 11225 Constitution Drive in Westchester, IL.
Volunteers gather most Saturday during the summer months (weather and other conditions permitting) to tend to the Prairie House Garden and surrounding plant life to ensure the health and beauty of this historical and natural landmark.
